United Kingdom Written by Peter Harris
Anyone with a .uk domain name (web address) will soon be able to check when
it is due for renewal, thanks to changes to Nominet UKs domain name search facility.
From 27 May 2003, the WHOIS search on Nominets web site at www.nominet.org.uk will include the renewal date as well as the person or organisation to whom the domain name is registered.
"These changes are being introduced to give people greater access to information about their domain name, as part of our online customer service development," explained Lesley Cowley, managing director of Nominet UK, the national Registry for all domain names ending .uk. "It should also make them less vulnerable to fraudulent renewal requests."
Nominets advice to anyone approached unexpectedly with a domain name
renewal request is to first check whether the name really is due for renewal, then contact their domain name registration agent or ISP, who would normally be responsible for renewing it on their behalf.
"Never be bounced into registering or renewing a domain name," continued
Cowley. "There is such a wide range of options that you should always shop
around to find the domain name and service provider to suit you and your
budget."
